October 28, 1864

Wheeling Intelligencer
October 29, 1864

There was an unusually large attendance at the Union Campaign Club Room last evening. Previous to the organization of the meeting, Mr. Fred Myers, very gravely remarked that he had been appointed a committee of one by the Union men of Madison township to invite the Union Club to pay the last tribute of respect to the remains of Butternutism, which were now lying in melancholy state at the McClellan Central Club room, Washington Hall.

The Club resolved to hold a meeting in the city on Tuesday evening next, and a German meeting on Friday evening. The latter meeting will be addressed by Gen. Willich, a distinguished German orator, and the former by Prof. Bayne, of Pennsylvania. Several gentlemen addressed the Club.
