To his excellency Governor Pierpoint
Dear Sir

As Gilmer is willing to doe her part in furnishing soldiers to put down this Rebelion I would sudgest Daniel E Heckert as a suitable man to be commishioned as second Lutenant. he is willing to doe his best as a recruting officer I am of the opinion that he will make a good officer I don't know that we can doe better in the County I cheerfully recommed him as a suitable man to be Commishioned as second Lutenant [.]

Gilmer is not willing to be behind she will turn out as many soldiers according to the union population as any other County if you can send him a Commishon you will send it as soon as you can he is anxious to get to work send your letter to Troy Gilmer
