The West Virginia Ambassadors Camp, an educational summer camp for students entering ninth grade, will be held in Charleston June 15-18, 2020. The program was introduced by the West Virginia Department of Arts, Culture and History with support from the West Virginia Department of Education for the state’s Sesquicentennial in 2013.
School superintendents submit two nominations and two alternate nominations from their district to join other outstanding students from around the state for an adventure in West Virginia history, culture and arts awareness.
Entering its seventh year, Ambassadors Camp provides the participants with opportunities to learn more about the state with programs at the State Capitol and about college life while they stay in University of Charleston dorms.
While at camp, the students stay in dorms and eat in the cafeteria at the University of Charleston. They ride buses to their activities at the State Capitol and downtown Charleston and they have 24-hour teacher chaperones during the camp.
West Virginia Ambassador Camp is completely funded and operated through grants from the Department of Arts, Culture, and History, the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission, the Clay Center for the Performing Arts and Sciences and the Charleston Convention and Visitors Bureau. Because of this support, camp is entirely free for participants.
The West Virginia Department of Education provides technical support and camp is coordinated and run by the West Virginia Department of Arts, Culture and History.
